WHAT IS WIC?

"WIC" stands for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children.  It is a nutrition program that helps mothers and young children (under 5 years of age) eat well and stay healthy.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR WIC?

1.  Applicants must meet the following criteria.

  • Be a pregnant women
  • Breastfeeding (up to baby's first birthday)
  • A postpartum women who is not breastfeeding (up to six months after delivery of the baby)
  • Have a child under the age of five

2.  Applicants must fall under these income guidelines:

  • Your income may be greater than the amounts listed above if you are currently enrolled in any of the following programs:  Kinship Care, Food Share, BadgerCare Plus or W-2

  • The WIC Program uses the same income guidelines as free and reduced price school lunches.

  • Fathers, guardians and foster parents may apply for WIC for their children.

  • Many working families qualify.

3.  And, the applicant must have a nutritional or health need.

  • At the appointment, participants are screened to determine their health status.  Heights and weights are measured.  A small amount of blood is taken to determine iron levels.  A health and diet/nutrition history is reviewed by a WIC nutritionist

  • Contact the Outagamie County WIC Program at
    (920) 832-5109 for additional information or to schedule an appointment.  The office is located in the County Administration Building, 410 S. Walnut Street, Appleton.
